Be-Mine Beringen

Be-mine Beringen is a former coal-mining site in the municipality of Beringen and an important part of the industrial heritage of Limburg. The former mining buildings have been renovated and serve various purposes. The Be-mine site consists out of a visitor centre, offices, the mining museum, a swimming pool, a diving centre, an indoor climbing centre and more.

There’s also place for outdoor recreation on the 2 spoil tips behind the coalmine. The small spoil tip offers an “adventure mountain” for the kids, a hiking trail that leads to the viewing platform as well as a mountain biking trail. The large spoil tip is perfect for a somewhat longer hike to the top, where the 360° will reveal why Limburg is the greenest province of Flanders.

Adventure Mountain Be-Mine Beringen

Adventure Mountain offers a thrilling experience for kids with opportunities to climb, explore and traverse through a forest consisting of 1,600 poles. Visitors can reach the top of the terril using a variety of methods such as stairs, ropes courses, climbing structures, crawltunnels, and hiking trails. For those seeking an extra adrenaline rush, a breathtaking slide back down awaits.

Spoil Tip of Be-Mine Beringen

Be-mine is the perfect starting place for a hike. The former spoil tips of the coal mine offer a great view on the region and will reveal why Limburg is the greenest province in Flanders.

There are four marked routes that will give you the opportunity to discover the former mining site and its environments. It’s possible to combine all routes.

  • The Green route is 3.5 km long and will bring you to the top of the “Adventure Mountain”.
  • The Blue route is 4.5 km long and shows you the miners residential area’s.
  • The Yellow route is 6.3km long and follows the old coal rail towards the canal.
  • The Red route is 6.5 km long and will bring you to the top of the highest mountain.

The green route is advised for all first time visitors, since it gives you a good idea of the mining site. Visitors who want to visit both mountains and enjoy the panoramic views can combine the Green route with the Red route.

MTB-trails

At Adventure Mountain, mountain bikers are in for a real challenge with the variety of trails available. Two routes have been carefully mapped out to suit different skill levels, the green being relatively easier while the red is more technically demanding. The intermediate plateau at the skill park is designed with north shores and dirt. The MTB trail is interconnected with the tourist bike trail, and it’s also part of a broader network of MTB trails.

The MTB trails are open from sunrise to sunset and freely accessible. Bikers should always follow the designated biking directions and only use the designated biking routes. At the bottom of the adventure mountain you’ll find a bike wash.

Sportoase Indoor Swimming Pool

Todi diving centre

Todi is the first indoor diving centre in Europe where visitors can enjoy the underwater world together with colorful tropical freshwater fish. The former coal washing basin holds roughly 6.5 million liters of water with a stable temperature of 23°C. There are roughly 30 different of species of freshwater fish from all over the world, including pufferfish, arowana’s, gourami’s, cichlids, pleco’s and piranha’s. Visitors can admire the unique aquarium and diving centre whilst having a delicious meal or drink at the Todi Brasserie.

Alpamayo indoor climbing

The indoor climbing centre at Be-mine features 1,300m² of climbing wall plus a dedicated bouldering area. Both experienced as inexperienced climbers are welcome!
